### Lesson Plan: Counting and Identification of Numbers 1 - 200
**Grade Level:** Nursery 2
**Subject:** Numeracy
**Duration:** 45 minutes
---
#### **Objective:**
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
1. Count numbers sequentially from 1 to 200.
2. Identify and recognize numbers from 1 to 200.
3. Develop confidence in numeral recognition through interactive activities.
---
#### **Materials Needed:**
- Number flashcards (1-200)
- Number chart/poster (1-200)
- Large dice
- Counting objects (e.g., blocks, beads)
- Interactive whiteboard/blackboard and markers
- Worksheets with numbers 1-200
- Visual aid (e.g., videos, songs about counting)
---
#### **Introduction (5 minutes):**
1. **Greeting and Warm-up:**
- Greet the students and have them sit in a circle.
- Introduce the topic by explaining that today they are going to practice counting and identifying numbers up to 200.
- Sing a counting song to warm up. For example, "The Numbers Song" up to 200.
#### **Direct Instruction (10 minutes):**
2. **Number Chart Review:**
- Display the number chart (1-200) on the board or poster.
- Point to and read out the numbers with the students, emphasizing 10s (10, 20, etc.) to form patterns.
3. **Number Flashcards:**
- Show number flashcards (up to 50 for this segment) one by one.
- Ask the students to call out each number aloud.
- Progressively increase the numbers depending on the understanding and retention of the students.
#### **Guided Practice (10 minutes):**
4. **Counting Objects:**
- Hand out counting objects (blocks, beads) to each child.
- Have them count groups of objects together.
- Start with smaller groups (e.g., 10 blocks) and move to larger groups (50, 100).
5. **Interactive Game:**
- Roll a large dice and ask a student to identify the number and then count out that many objects.
- Gradually increase the difficulty by combining dice rolls (e.g., if two dice show 3 and 5, the student counts 8).
#### **Independent Practice (10 minutes):**
6. **Worksheet Activity:**
- Provide worksheets with random numbers between 1 and 200.
- Ask students to color specific numbers or connect dots to reveal a number pattern up to 200.
- Supervising children and assisting as necessary.
#### **Closure (5 minutes):**
7. **Number Recap:**
- Gather children back together in a circle.
- Quickly review the number chart one more time.
- Ask individual students to point out or say a number between 1 and 200.
8. **Counting Song Reprise:**
- Sing the counting song again to reinforce numeral recognition.
- Praise the students for their participation and effort.
#### **Assessment:**
- **Informal:** Observation during activities and participation in counting/identification to gauge understanding.
- **Formal:** Review preschoolers' worksheets for accuracy in recognizing and/or tracing numbers.
#### **Homework:**
- Encourage students to practice counting with their family, using household items like toys or utensils, up to at least 50 or higher if comfortable.
#### **Extension:**
- For advanced students, introduce simple addition using flashcards and objects.
- Incorporate counting in daily routines such as snack time (e.g., counting apple slices).
---
**Note:** Adapt activity difficulty according to student proficiency levels, and ensure to keep activities engaging and interactive to maintain interest and enthusiasm.
